I’m so grateful for this little bakery and the wonderful community that has supported it.
Thank you for being here—I hope my bread brings warmth and joy to your home.

Welcome to Mama Bear Sourdough, where every loaf is baked with love, just like I’d make for my own family. What started as a simple passion for baking has grown into a small business dedicated to sharing the warmth of homemade sourdough with others. I believe good bread is more than just food—it’s a little piece of home, meant to be shared around the table with the people you love.

At Mama Bear Sourdough, I focus on high-quality, naturally fermented bread that’s Not too Hard, Not Too Soft, Just Right. Each loaf is baked in a Dutch oven, creating the perfect crust and soft, airy inside. I use simple, wholesome ingredients—just flour, water, salt, and my sourdough starter—without preservatives or shortcuts. Because my bread is naturally fermented, it has a lower gluten content, making it easier to digest for those with gluten sensitivities. While my loaves may not have fancy designs, I believe quality always comes first—because good bread is about how it feels when you take that first warm bite.

For years, I gifted my homemade loaves to family, friends, and neighbors, never imagining it would turn into a business. But with every request for “just one more loaf,” I knew I had something special to share. With the support of my husband, Greg, and our four amazing kids—Clarissa, Zach, Emily, and Gage—I took the leap and turned my passion into Mama Bear Sourdough. Greg has been my biggest cheerleader, even gifting over 90 loaves to his elementary school staff as Christmas presents. His belief in me has helped make this dream possible.

FAQ

Do you offer gluten-free sourdough?

No, my sourdough is not gluten-free. However, because it's naturally fermented, many people with sensitivities find it easier to digest. I actually have families that buy loaves often because it's the only bread their kids or families can eat without issues.

What specialty loaves do you offer?

🍯 Honey Brown Bread â€“ A rich, hearty sourdough with a deep flavor from molasses, honey, and whole wheat flour. A touch of cocoa powder adds depth, while light olive oil keeps it soft and moist. Slightly sweet, slightly savory, and absolutely delicious!

🌶️ Cheddar Bacon Jalapeño â€“ A bold, savory sourdough packed with melty cheddar cheese, smoky bacon, and a kick of fresh jalapeño. Perfect for sandwiches, dipping, or enjoying on its own!

🌿 Rosemary Garlic â€“ A fragrant, flavorful loaf infused with fresh rosemary and roasted garlic. This rustic sourdough pairs beautifully with soups, pastas, or a simple spread of butter.

What specific ingredients do you use in your sourdough?

I keep it simple–just flour, water, salt, and my naturally fermented sourdough starter—NO commercial yeast, no preservatives–just real, wholesome ingredients.

Here are the specific brands I buy: Lehi Mills Turkey Flour, Pink Salt–Fine Grain, Many Years Old High-Quality French Sourdough Starter from Crave Restaurant Cooking Class, and Filtered Houe Tap Water.

Who is Mama Bear?

I’m Lara Alexander—a mama of four, a real estate agent, and the heart behind Mama Bear Sourdough. I started this little business after years of gifting my bread and realizing just how much people loved it. Now, I get to share my passion with even more of you!

Why don't your loaves have fancy designs?

I don't add extra flour after shaping to keep the non-fermented gluten content low. My focus is on making high-quality, nourishing bread–something that tastes amazing, even if it doesn't look "fancy".
